" the invisible art " - Familiarize yourself with a basic understanding of film distribution and let us do the rest.
-
Film distribution is one of the three main branches of the film industry. It provides the link between film production and exhibition. It is also the most profitable of the three sectors and is dominated by large multinational conglomerates. Film distribution companies supply movies, television programs, videos and new media to outlets such as cinemas and broadcasters. They do so in territories where they have acquired rights from the producers. Traditionally, distribution companies are the prime source for financing new productions. The distribution sector has been called “the invisible art.” Its practices tend to only concern industry insiders and go unnoticed by audiences.

Successful distribution derives from early planning. Why? Because you should make sure your movie has a shot at getting it in the first place. Also, there will be film distribution costs, like lab fees, additional legal fees, insurance. The list goes on. If you're setting out to make an independent movie, think about how and where it'll be seen. What genres seem popular? Which types of movies are doing well on the festival circuit? Think about possible demographics, but also think about what movies get bought... and what movies don't. This is where a distributor can be a great asset in lifting your project to the next level.
-
This is the most important question. How is Dreamland different from every other distribution company? For starters, we pride ourselves on collaboration and networking rather than financial gain or profit. We know that goes against typical business models, although these are the core values of our company which will not change as it continues to grow. As we are always excited to take on the challenge of a feature film; we primarily focus our attention to short films and emerging artists/filmmakers who are looking to elevate to that next level. We want to make as many voices heard as possible! We are transparent and concise about what we look for in projects and collaborators and don't "burn you" in the fine print. Catering to primarily short films allows our team to collaborate from a more intimate and personal perspective - working with you along your journey. Unfortunately, most Vancouver distributors do not invest in short films as they believe it's not worth their time or effort, or doesn't generate a substantial profit for them. In the end, it all comes down to values... they're here for the money. We're here for YOU!
